Overview
In January 2024, M4RT was commissioned to deliver a full electric heating and hot water upgrade at a rural property in Ruthin, North Wales. The client wanted to replace their aging biomass pellet boiler with a future-proof, low-carbon system that could utilise their existing solar PV array and benefit from off-peak electricity tariffs. The brief required the new system to integrate with the property’s existing underfloor heating (UFH) on the ground floor and radiator circuit upstairs—all while fitting into the compact space beneath the staircase.
The Brief
Decommission and remove an existing pellet boiler.
Deliver a 100% electric heating and hot water solution.
Integrate with existing UFH and upstairs radiator circuit.
Fit all system components under the stairs to preserve space, and enclose.
Maximise solar PV use and charge with off-peak electricity.
The Twist
Just a week before Christmas, the customer's pellet boiler suffered a critical failure, leaving them without heating and hot water during the coldest time of the year. What began as a planned January installation quickly turned into an emergency response. With freezing temperatures looming, our team pulled out all the stops to get the new system operational before Christmas.

Solution Delivered
Despite the unexpected urgency, we delivered a smart, compact, and highly efficient system that met every challenge:
Tepeo ZEB (Zero Emission Boiler):
A thermal battery system capable of charging during off-peak hours and releasing heat as needed.
Seamlessly connected to both UFH and radiator circuits, supplying consistent, low-carbon heat.
Mixergy SolarX Cylinder:
Specifically designed to work with solar PV, the SolarX cylinder uses smart controls to heat only what’s required.
Integrated digital solar divertor to divert excess solar energy to hot water, enhancing sustainability and savings.
Space-Conscious Installation:
All components carefully configured to fit under the stairs, with thoughtful pipework design and compact layout.
Maintains the aesthetic and functionality of the home.
The Result
✔ Emergency response success – Heating and hot water fully operational before Christmas.
✔ Seamless integration with existing UFH and radiator systems.
✔ All-electric, future-ready solution with off-peak optimisation.
✔ Solar PV synergy through intelligent controls.
✔ Minimal disruption thanks to compact under-stairs installation.
This project is a shining example of M4RT’s commitment to customer care, technical expertise, and delivering high-performance systems under pressure. What started as a January install became a race against time—and we crossed the finish line before Christmas dinner was served.
Customer Review -
Would not hesitate to recommend Martyn
Martyn and his son fitted a Tepeo ZEB and Mixergy cylinder for us. We were supposed to be having these installed in January, but when our current boiler died mid December, Martyn pulled out all the stops for us to have these installed before Christmas. We trusted Martyn from first meeting, he was informative, constantly in touch and the installation itself excellent. They were a pleasure to have in the house. We really appreciated Martyn and Aaron travelling such a distance and just before Christmas. Many thanks again for our warm house and hot showers!!! :-)
