Brief: Future-ready, all-electric heating and hot water system for a renovated home
Project Overview
As part of a full building renovation in Long Marston, Stratford-upon-Avon, the client approached M4RT with a clear goal: to transition to a smart, all-electric heating and hot water system that maximised energy efficiency, integrated seamlessly with the building’s solar PV array, and utilised off-peak electricity tariffs for optimal savings.
The Challenge
The property previously relied on a traditional 210L hot water cylinder and fossil fuel-based heating. The client wanted this removed in favour of a more intelligent, segmented system that allowed greater control over energy consumption, while also integrating with:
A new underfloor heating (UFH) system on the ground floor
Existing radiators on the upper floor
A purpose-built boiler room in the newly renovated space
On-site solar PV and dynamic electricity tariffs
The Solution
M4RT specified and installed the following:
Tepeo ZEB (Zero Emission Boiler): A cutting-edge thermal battery that stores heat during off-peak hours, allowing the home to benefit from low-cost, low-carbon electricity.
Mixergy Smart Cylinder: Replacing the old 210L tank, the Mixergy cylinder offers segmented heating, meaning only the required volume of hot water is heated, significantly reducing energy use and increasing responsiveness.
Martyn and the team configured the system to:
Connect to and serve both the new UFH and the existing radiator circuits
Work in harmony with the home’s solar PV generation
Prioritise off-peak electricity use via a smart controls system
Fit cleanly into the new boiler room layout, ensuring easy access and long-term serviceability
Results
The client now enjoys a fully electric, low-carbon heating and hot water system tailored to the home’s needs. The segmented Mixergy cylinder ensures hot water is delivered efficiently and on demand, while the Tepeo ZEB leverages cheap, clean electricity — both from the grid and the rooftop solar system.
Benefits Delivered
Reduced carbon footprint with zero on-site emissions
Optimised running costs using off-peak electricity and PV generation
Improved hot water management via Mixergy's intelligent, app-controlled system
Future-ready solution in line with low-carbon home standards
